Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 17, 2026
GitaQ ("we", "us") operates gitaq.com. This policy explains what we collect when you visit, why, and the choices you have. We do not sell your personal information.
What we collect
You can read the Bhagavad Gita on gitaq.com without creating an account. We do not ask for your name, address, or payment details. We do collect:
- Usage data — pages viewed, referring site, approximate (city-level) location, device type, browser, and language.
- Technical data — IP address and request headers, processed by our hosting provider (Cloudflare) to serve pages and block abuse. We use the country your IP resolves to in order to link you to your nearest Amazon store.
- Cookies and similar storage — described below. Your theme (light/dark) preference is stored locally in your browser and never leaves your device.
Cookies and advertising
This site is free because it shows ads. Cookies are small files stored on your device. First-party cookies are created by the site you are visiting, while third-party cookies are set by domains other than the one you are visiting. We and our advertising partner use both. Advertising is not shown on our homepage.
Adsterra
Advertising slots on this site are filled by Adsterra. When an Adsterra ad loads, Adsterra and its advertising partners may collect:
- IP address and approximate location derived from it
- Browser type and version, operating system, and time zone
- Device type and device or advertising identifiers
- The page the ad appeared on, and your interactions with the ad (impressions, clicks)
They use this to select and display ads, to cap how often you see the same ad, to measure performance, and to detect fraud and invalid traffic. Adsterra and its partners may set cookies and use pixels and similar tracking technologies for these purposes.
See Adsterra's privacy policy and their cookies policy for their own disclosures and the choices they offer.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand which chapters and verses people read, so we can improve the site. It reports on traffic in aggregate. You can opt out with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. See also Google's privacy policy.
Affiliate links
Some pages link to books on Amazon. GitaQ is a participant in the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn fees by linking to Amazon. If you buy through those links we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Such links are marked as sponsored.
Following one of these links takes you to Amazon, which may set its own cookies and identifiers to attribute the visit. That processing is governed by Amazon's privacy notice, not this one. Nothing is shared with Amazon unless you click the link.
Your choices
- Ad personalization — adjust or turn off personalized ads for participating vendors (including Adsterra's partners) at Google Ad Settings, YourAdChoices (US), or Your Online Choices (EU/UK).
- Cookies — block or delete them in your browser settings. The site will still work; ads may be less relevant.
- Consent — where required (for example in the EEA and UK), a consent banner lets you accept or reject non-essential cookies, and you can change your choice at any time through that banner.
If you are in the EEA or UK (GDPR)
Our legal bases are your consent for advertising cookies, and our legitimate interests in keeping the site secure and available. You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, and to data portability. You may also lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority. To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@gitaq.com.
If you are in California (CCPA/CPRA)
We do not sell your personal information for money. Sharing data with advertising partners for personalized advertising may be treated as a "sale" or "sharing" under California law. You have the right to know what we collect, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of sale or sharing — which you can do through the ad-choice links above or by emailing privacy@gitaq.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
Children
This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Data retention and security
Server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and abuse prevention. We serve all pages over HTTPS. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International transfers
Our providers may process data on servers outside your country, including the United States. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
About the content
The Sanskrit text, transliteration, word-by-word meaning and classical commentary come from a public-domain edition. Explanations, reflections, FAQs and study notes are generated with AI and reviewed for structure, not verified line by line by a scholar. Treat them as a study aid alongside the Sanskrit, not as authoritative commentary.
Third parties
This policy covers gitaq.com only. Links to other sites — including Amazon and advertisers — are governed by their own privacy policies.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
